Topics
I give talks and run workshops for schools, universities, libraries, companies and cultural events. Formats range from a 30-minute talk to a half-day workshop, and I adapt the content to your audience. Here are the topics I can speak about; if you have another idea, just ask.
Literary theory for everyone: how to read a text
A practical introduction to the tools of literary theory, such as form and content, narrative time and space, and the question of what a text can and cannot represent, with examples from Danish and international literature. For students, reading groups and anyone who wants to read more closely.
From Homer to Dante: the long history of Western literature
A guided walk through the epic tradition, from the Iliad and the Odyssey via Virgil's Aeneid to Dante, and how each author reads and rewrites the one before. For literature classes, libraries and curious readers with no prior knowledge.
The art of persuasion: from Plato's Phaedrus to today's speeches
An introduction to the rhetorical tradition, from Plato's Phaedrus, where Plato appears as a poet as much as a philosopher, and its question of whether rhetoric is a craft or a trick, to the classics that followed. What the old rhetoricians knew about persuasion, and how it helps us listen to political speeches, advertising and social media.
Learning Danish as an adult: what actually works
Drawing on six years of teaching diplomats, executives and Ukrainians, and on the exam practice sets and videos behind Learn Danish with Isaac. For companies, schools and integration programmes.
Street language and the Danish literary canon
Why Danish literature takes street language less seriously than its Scandinavian neighbours, and what that says about who gets to write. Based on my letter in Information and my work on Klog på Sprog.
Literature in the Anthropocene: reading Theis Ørntoft
How poetry and prose imagine climate, time and human agency. An introduction to the ideas in my master's thesis, for literature classes, reading groups and cultural institutions.
Making a magazine or a podcast from scratch
What I learned founding DMFIS and the literature podcast Mellem Linierne: raising funds, working with volunteers, finding writers and guests, and getting an audience.
